Support the SMS students and teachers by showing that you value your child’s education by joining the PTA. Memberships start at $13 and students are only $7 with a parent membership! Students are still giving 100% during COVID-19, so should the state! Texas PTA has joined with 22 other organizations asking Gov. Abbott to assure 100% ADA funding for the remainder of this school year.

Thursday, April 1 -- PTA is providing Sonic drink treats for the Schimelpfenig staff -- any drink switches are purely accidental (no April Fool's here!)

Monday, April 5 -- Student/Teacher Holiday
Tuesday, April 6 -- Writing STAAR for 7th grade F2F students.
Don’t forget: your student needs to bring his/her fully-charged Chromebook, charger, a snack, and water bottle. Lunch from home is encouraged. Also consider having your student bring a book or drawing materials for something to do if he/she finishes the test early.

SEL, or Social Emotional Learning, addresses the emotional and social wellbeing of children and adults. Anxiety, stress, depression, behavior issues like bullying, verbal or emotional abuse, substance abuse, etc. all are attributed to managing one’s emotions and social skills.

March is National Youth Art Month. Locally, PISD celebrates with a state YAM competition, Big Art Day, and an annual exhibition. Although PISD is unable to hold the traditional gallery event and reception, they have created a video exhibition celebrating the amazing young artists in PISD! UDPATE! SKI Plano is turning 25 in 2021 and we need YOU to help us celebrate our decades of success in supporting kids in Plano ISD! The SKI Plano committee decided to keep it SIMPLE this year, but that doesn't mean we don't need your help! Tickets are on sale now!

The North Texas Teen Book Festival is going virtual this year! Many of your favorite authors will be there. You can submit your questions to the featured authors. It’s free, so come join the fun! Check out the website for the lineup and activities happening on March 5-6.

3. World Wear Project – Clean out your clutter of old toys, kitchen items, unused towels and bedding and of course CLOTHES! Bring them up to the BIG BLUE Bin located in the west parking lot.

Thank you to all who donated to our World Wear bin. In December, we collected a total of 682 pounds and received $81.84!
Hope this newsletter finds you well, warm, and safe. Hard to believe that last week was single digit temperatures and this week we were into the 80s! As they say here in Texas, if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes! Though, unfortunately for some of us, we had to wait more like five days this time!
