Hope this newsletter finds you well, warm, and safe.  Hard to believe that last week was single digit temperatures and this week we were into the 80s!  As they say here in Texas, if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes!  Though, unfortunately for some of us, we had to wait more like five days this time!

There are resources to help if your family is in need, including the City of Plano website at:  Plano, TX - Official Website | Official Website where you can find helpful information, including a link to apply for Federal Disaster Aid.  Information about various Community Resources to assist students and families is also available on the PISD website at:  https://www.pisd.edu/Page/22602

As always, please send me an email at president@smspta.org with any questions or concerns, and I and your PTA Board will do our best to help.

Public schools look different this year, but the commitment is the same: to keep every student safe, learning and growing. Join National PTA in celebrating Public Schools Week this week and show you're #PublicSchoolProud. Listen to a podcast featuring National PTA President Leslie Boggs (formerly Texas PTA President from 2014-16) on how parents and schools can work together to meet the growing social-emotional and mental health needs of students during the pandemic.

Did you know that Rosa Parks was not the first person to defy bus segregation laws? Or that in 1962, an African American commanded a U.S. Navy combatant ship? There are many incredible accomplishments of the African American community members that are not well-known, or that have been lost to the past.
