Outstanding PTA- Schimelpfenig Middle School


Support the SMS students and teachers by showing that you value your child’s education by joining the PTA. Your membership helps pay for student programs, parent education programs, teacher resources, student socials, and so much more! While we encourage you to be involved however your time and talents allow, joining PTA does not obligate you to volunteer. It’s simply the easiest and most affordable way to be involved in your child’s education. Memberships start at less than $12 and students are only $5 with a parent membership! As a benefit to members only, you will have access to an online directory as well as PTA member discounts. Student members receive special discounts during our spring and fall socials and have the opportunity to be involved in leadership opportunities. 

This year we are striving to have one member of the PTA for every student of the school. By joining, you are helping us give every child a voice on issues directly affecting their school experience. Please help us reach our goal.

Join Schimelpfenig PTA Back the Future     


  Students will take a 15 minute anonymous electronic student safety survey during the week of 2/21-2/28.  The survey questions are HERE for  your review.  If you do not want your child to participate, please notify Dr. Perry by email at Brant.perry@pisd.edu.  For more details, click on the icon.

  Remember to order your spring pictures!  Order by March 2nd to avoid shipping & handling fees.  You can also order online at Lifetouch.com with the code on the order form/proof your child brought home.

  Open House will be Monday, March 4th from 6:30-8:00 pm.  The SMS staff along with our students have a special night in store as we issue our 3rd Annual Schimelpfenig Passport. Our SMS Passport is chock full of student presentations, performances, and showcases, all led by our SMS students. We want to show off all of the wonderful work our students produce in a format that you are sure to appreciate. Please join us in celebrating our wonderful school, students, and community as we pack the house for Spring Open House.

Current 6th and 7th grade parents are encouraged to attend this event on Tuesday, February 19th from 6-7 pm to learn about electives for 7th and 8th grade.  Counselors will be visiting classrooms on 2/14-15 to discuss course catalogs, credit options, and registration cards for all 2019-20 7th and 8th grade students.  Registration cards are due to History teachers on 2/21.  Course selections will be done online with Counselors on 2/22 and 2/25.

The Deafinitely Not Different 5k and Fun Run is on Saturday, February 23rd. It includes the following events: Deafinitely Not Different 5k, Deafinitely Not Different Virtual Race, and Deafinitely Not Different Fun Run.  For more information and to sign up, click HERE.

The SMS Book Fair is coming up and we need your help! The book fair will run from Tuesday, February 26th through Friday, March 1st and during open house on Monday, March 4th.  If you'd like to volunteer for this event, please click HERE.

Attention all 7th graders: Cheer Sign-Ups for the 2019-2020 school year have begun! Information packets and applications can be picked up in the front office or from Ms. Merlo (C114) or Ms. Manning (C115). There will be a parent meeting at 6:00 PM on March 4th, immediately preceding the Spring Open House. All cheerleading applications are due by March 8th.

There are a number of positions for the 2019-20 Board that will need to be filled, and all are crucial to the success of the SMS PTA. With this in mind, please take a look at the description of each elected position HERE and click on the ones you are interested in.  No experience is required, and training is provided.  PTA membership required.

Volunteers must be cleared to volunteer via the PISD Application Process and be a current SMS PTA member to handle money.

Local PTAs in Good Standing with Texas PTA who welcome 14 new members in February will qualify for the XOXO Award.  By Rally Day 2/25, the Texas PTA wants to be able to claim it has half a million Texans back the future, which represents just a 3% increase in membership, so please help us achieve it!
