Outstanding PTA- Schimelpfenig Middle School

Support the SMS students and teachers by showing that you value your child’s education by joining the PTA. Your membership helps pay for student programs, parent education programs, teacher resources, student socials, and so much more! While we encourage you to be involved however your time and talents allow, joining PTA does not obligate you to volunteer. It’s simply the easiest and most affordable way to be involved in your child’s education. Memberships start at less than $12 and students are only $5 with a parent membership! As a benefit to members only, you will have access to an online directory as well as PTA member discounts. Student members receive special discounts during our spring and fall socials and have the opportunity to be involved in leadership opportunities.

This year we are striving to have one member of the PTA for every student of the school. By joining, you are helping us give every child a voice on issues directly affecting their school experience. Please help us reach our goal.

Please remember as we head into cold and flu season that your student should not be sent to school with any of the following:

· Temperature of 100 degrees or more. Student must be fever free for 24 hours, without medication, before re-entry.

· Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Student must be symptom free for 24 hours without medication before re-entry.

· Pain and/or swelling at angle of jaw.

· Undetermined rash over any part of the body.

· Undiagnosed scaly patches on the body or scalp.

· Red, draining eyes.

· Intense itching with signs and symptoms of secondary infection.

· Open, draining lesions.

· Jaundice

Students will also be sent home from school if they exhibit any of those symptoms. Please remember that we do our best to keep all our students safe and healthy. By keeping your student home when they are sick, you are preventing the spread of illness and hopefully if other parents keep their students home, when they are ill, it will protect your student as well.

World Wear Project Bin

Help us to be a part of diverting thousands of pounds of shoes, clothing, and other textiles from local landfills by filling our donation bin with your worn-out shoes, clothing, purses, belts, wallets, hats, caps, backpacks, hard toys, stuffed animals, and pots & pans.  For every pound collected from you, the SMS PTA receives $0.15 per pound.  The benefit to you?  Neater closets, drawers, toy boxes, and kitchens, and the knowledge that less textile waste will end up in our local landfills.
