Heritage Night has been postponed until next year. Due to some unavoidable logistical issues that we would have during Open House this year, we’ve decided to postpone Heritage Night until next year in order to provide the community with a fun and successful event.
Please contact Monica at heritagenight@smspta.org if you have any questions or would like to serve on the planning committee for next year's event.

The SMS Book Fair is coming up and we need your help!
The book fair will run from Thursday, February 27th through Tuesday, March 3rd from 8am to 3:30pm (weekdays) and during Open House on Monday, March 2nd from 6:30pm - 8:00pm.
On these days, volunteers are needed to run the cash registers and help circulate to answer questions. If you have not used the cash register before and would like a tutorial ahead of time, you are welcome to come to the library Wednesday, February 26th at 9:00 for a demonstration. If you can't come in then, no problem. I would just recommend coming in 15 minutes ahead of your shift so those working before you can show you how. It is fairly easy so please don't worry.
Volunteers are also needed on Wednesday, February 26th at 9:00 am for set up and Wednesday, March 4th at 10:00 am for take down.
Please note that most 6th grade classes will be visiting the book fair on Thursday, most 7th grade on Friday, and most 8th grade on Monday. If you want to know when a specific teacher is scheduled for the book fair, please email me.
If you can only work part of a shift, please indicate that in the comments. Make sure that you have completed an online volunteer application form that can be found on the PISD website.
I recommend completing this early as it takes 2-3 days to process and be cleared to volunteer. If you are not sure that your background check has been cleared or if you have any other questions, please contact the PTA Library Coordinator, Stephanie Miller-Pu, tx2co2tx@hotmail.com

Love planning parties?? The SMS Social committee is looking for people to join their team! This is a fun way to meet new people and provide our students with a fun social that will he held March 27! Email volunteers@smspta.org if interested!! No experience necessary!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful time with your friends and families this past holiday season. It is January, and we are almost half way through the school year. Can you believe it? Time is flying fast, and we are already starting to prepare for next year. I’m really looking forward to the next few months as we have several fun things planned this semester for the kids.

A big thank you to all who donated their time, expert baking skills, and those who provided all the delicious holiday desserts for pie day and the teacher luncheon! We appreciate you helping us show the teachers and staff how much the SMS community values them and everything they do for our kids during the day.

Please join us January 16th for our next General Meeting and Coffee with the Principal at 8:45 am. This is a great opportunity to hear the latest information from Dr. Perry and ask any questions you might have. Coffee, tea, water and light snacks are supplied.

Also, be on the lookout for more information for our upcoming Spring Social on March 27th and our 8th grade end of year celebration on May 15th. You won’t want your student to miss out on the fun!

Soon, we will be actively looking to fill our board for the 2020-2021 school year. If you are interested in joining our amazing, award-winning board in any capacity, please feel free to contact me at president@smspta.org or Andria Giboney at andriagiboney.ptsa@gmail.com and we will be happy to provide you with additional information or answer any questions you might have. Whether you have a little time or a lot, we have a position that will fit your schedule! No experience is needed and training is provided.
